I swung by after a long 15 mile MTB ride at the Fells, and ate a whole pizza along with a beer since they teamed up with neighboring Sligo to be able to sell food/booze together during the pandemic restrictions. The outdoor seating they added behind the place is awesome too. Worth the experience of trying a more unique style of pizza that you don't find around here too often.ĭragon Pizza at Davis Sq - I think this one meets the hype. I haven't gotten it in a while, but it is also close to me, so I should probably give it another go. Honorable mentions for "high quality and high price" pizzas that are worth going out of the way for include:Īvenue at Ball Sq - they have Detroit style pizza, worth a try. Like the other places people mention are closer to $20/pizza but generally I can get a decent pizza at Pini's or Pepi's for like $15ish. Personally I like Pini's or Pepi's better, because they're 1) closer to me 2) extremely quick - I can place an order online, and go pick it up in about 10, 15 minutes max 3) extremely cheap for Boston area standards. Though my memory of Mamma Lisa's is slightly better than Leone's in terms of pizza quality, but also not worth going out of the way for imo. I tried Mamma Lisa's as well which is oddly right next to Leone's and Alfredo's, but it fell into the same category as Leone's - seemed to be run by some old townies who didn't know where my online order was. Personally if I'm going this far down Broadway, I'm going to Alfredo's for a calzone or chicken tender dinner (so much fried shit for $15 - tenders, fries, and onion rings). It's also way more out of the way for me then my other favorites I note below. Finally they figured out where my pizza was and it was just coming out of the oven, so it was hot. I had already placed my order online like 15 or 20 minutes ago, but they had no idea and seemed confused. Maybe I went on off hours, but it was like 2 old townies running the place. I remember trying it after seeing the all hype it got in this Reddit poll last year. But even then, I don't generally go out of my way to get them - if I'm biking or driving by and I want some, I'll stop in, but usually I just go to Pini's around the corner since they're quick, cheap, and decent enough. Exceptions for the ones you've mentioned like Dragon, A4 and Hot Box - those are def higher quality (and $$$) and worth trying. Pizza isn't really some mythical thing like the NYers and Chicagoers and whatever are claiming. Honestly the best pizza around here is whatever is near you and has half decent quality. Slightly less quality than Pini's but at midnight can you really complain around Boston that you actually can order and pickup food LOL. If I'm craving pizza really late though, Pini's is probably closed but Pepi's down the road is open until like 1am. I get it whenever I'm craving pizza because it's convenient and good enough imo. Is it worth the drive from across town or getting it delivered though? Probably not, it's good but not omg amazing best pizza ever. Like this post from almost a year or so back had it ranked second to Leone's. I live right next to Pini's and it gets a lot of hype in some of these posts too. "It's close enough for me to walk to from home, after the game I play at X park, during lunch to grab a slice, etc". Honestly I think that's half the hype around some of these places. Me and my dad would walk over from Foss park after I played a Little League game and grab a slice before we went home. And a lot of the hype comes from the fact that they've been part of the neighborhood for a long time.
